The new site features a listing of things to do, places to eat, places to stay, local resources, agricultural resources, and an event calendar, where Dickenson County citizens can submit events to be published on the events calendar page.  A “contact us” form will be used to get in touch with various departments within the county.  A “doing business” page will be added in the coming weeks, to include information for those interested in relocating to or starting a business in Dickenson County.  It will also include information about various available sites and properties to be used for industrial business attraction.

The Visit Widget application allows users to plan their visit to Dickenson County by adding events and attractions to their own customized plan. Users can also receive personalized notifications about venue and attractions near them.

The site will be available as a resource for local residents and visitors alike. Photography from several local photographers is featured, to include Anna Mullins Photography, Brad Deel Photography, and James Deel Photography.  The Breaks Interstate Park, Friends of Southwest, and the Heart of Appalachia have also contributed photographs and attraction content.

“We are extremely thankful for the funding opportunity from Virginia Tourism Corporation’s ARPA grant and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority’s marketing stipend, that made this project possible,” said Dana Cronkhite, Dickenson County Director of Economic Development. “Having a site that can be used for economic development, to include tourism, business attraction, and placemaking is a huge step forward for the county. The goal was to create a modern and clean site that captures the essence of our community, using the county’s new logo and style guide as a starting point.  We are thankful to all that have contributed and look forward to new events, blog posts, and additional pages being posted in the near future.”

If there is a business that is not listed that would like to be added, please use the contact us form on the site.

Visit Widget, an Austin, Texas based company has worked with the county to develop the new website and application.

Last Year, Dickenson County partnered with Roanoke, VA based AccessU to develop a new logo and branding package.  The “Visit” website is the official launch of the new branding and it can be expected to be seen more frequently moving forward.
